Canaletto

The Venetian
Saturday May 29th
6:30pm

The Wine Dutchess and I had tickets to see Chelsea Handler perform at Caesars, so we decieded to grab a light dinner across the street at the Venetian’s Canaletto before the show. Canaletto is located near the Grand Canal Shops off of “Saint Marks Square”. The menu features all the classic northern Italian specialties one would expect including wood fired pizzas, seafood, pasta dishes and a variety of desserts. The wine list is fairly extensive, and they were the Winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2007. The bread is baked fresh daily at their sister restaurant Il Fornaio (located in the New York, New York Hotel and Casino). Dine “al fresco” overlooking the square and catch one of the “Streetmosphere ” performances that evoke the spirit of old Venice while you sip a glass of Prosecco.

Wine:

  • Prosecco, Jeio

Appetizers: (shared)

  • Caprese Salad: Sliced vine-ripened tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil, drizzled with basil-infused extra-virgin olive oil
  • Calamaretti Fritti Baby squid lightly floured and deep-fried served with spicy marinara, grilled polenta and tartar sauce

The caprese salad was one of the best I've had.
