The shrimp salad is made with two types of shrimp

A friend and I walked to the local deli for a coffee, and curious to explore the area began heading west on the Montauk Highway towards the center of town. We noticed a seafood store in a shopping plaza next to the IGA and liquor store and decided to stop in and do a little food stalking to see what they had to offer. We were greeted by the owner, Mike, who used to be a commercial fisherman in the area for about 16 years prior to opening the Amagansett Seafood Store. All the fish and seafood is caught locally and delivered fresh daily. In addition to preparing amazing seafood salads and chowder, Mike also bakes fresh bread daily. There’s also a full case of fish to choose from, mussels and clams and a tank of fresh lobsters (with a sign warning you not to play with the “house pets”).

We had the opportunity to do an impromptu tasting as Mike generously gave us samples of his signature seafood salads. It became clear with each bite that it’s not just the freshness of the fish but his passion for fishing combined with a love of food that makes this place a local gem. After our tasting we ordered a crab cake and shrimp salad roll for lunch and watched as customers came in to pick up Sunday dinner, stop in to say hello or catch the score of the World Cup Game. I highly recommend making a trip here if you haven’t been—just don’t ring the bell twice.

Tasting:

  • Coleslaw
  • Tuna salad
  • Shrimp salad
  • Lobster salad
  • Spicy bass dip
  • Curried calamari
  • Scallop ceviche with lime and a hint of jalapeño
  • Clam chowder

Lunch: (shared)

  • Shrimp salad roll
  • Crab cake

The clam chowder was flavorful - the broth was creamy and silky without being too heavy

The crab cakes are made fresh in-house daily. Mike has perfected the recipe!
